At Poets’ Corner

Lex at Poets Corner Cafe (2)

At Poet’s Corner

I am divided,

Betwixt Past and Present,

Still, undecided:

Thomas Hardy?

Or William Barnes?

Or David Caddy

To work his charms?

To whom shall I lend

My imagination for a spell?

At Poets’ Corner

I pause and dwell.

With tea in one hand

And poetry book in the other

I am transported

By my love for

Poetry and tea

Sausage and sagacity!

The Storyteller’s Funeral

The Storyteller’s funeral

I’d promised myself

I’d find time to see

The Storyteller.

His funeral is today.

Gone in a flash.

I’d promised myself

I would record

His wisdom

When I could find the time.

I know the stories

Are retold

In the memories

Of all who loved him.

But what if

I do not find the time

To listen to them?

But what if

Their retelling loses

Much in translation?

As for me

I don’t even remember

Where I left the car keys.

What hope have I got

Of accurate recall?

Something must change

Before we lose another

Storyteller.

I cannot serve

God and Mammon

Nor

God and Chronos.

The Reaper Grim

Catches the corner of my eye

With his grinning scythe.

From the age of reason

Throughout the age of industry

And in the age of information

I have bowed my knee

To time and money.

“I haven’t got time!”

I’ve cried.

But now

He’s died.

Poem: In The Windy City

Poem In The Windy City

Umbrellas stripped from their owners

Like petals from a flower past its time

Wind and rain’s capricious kiss

Lingers, tingling on these lips of mine.

Eyes squint against such force

But it will pass… of course

A tourist in Chicago must be patient with

The Weather’s rhythm and its rhyme.

Dawn’s Cupcake Day – April 3rd

I have a very special friend called “Dawn” who knows me rather well.

She knows that I love cards and thoughtfulness.

So look what she made me:

Cupcake Day

Of course, I loved the opportunity to respond in a poem:

It’s Dawn’s Cupcake Day

It’s Dawn’s Cupcake Day

On April the Third

(I don’t know if you’d seen or heard?)

I’m a sparkly Lemon Cupcake

What type are you?

Not just any old type will do!

Some will be strawberry

Some will be iced in pink

Some will be chocolate

It really makes you think!

Choc-chips and walnuts

Banana and Toffee

Hundreds and Thousands

Or Orange and Coffee?

Whichever Cupcake

You choose to be

Know that you’ll always

Be Special to me!
